Cyprus Plans Maritime Mission to India

Around 25 Cypriot maritime companies are expected to join a business mission to India, seeking partnerships in shipping, ship management, maritime technology and related services.

The Cyprus–India Maritime Business Forum will take place in Mumbai on November 23, 2026. Shipping Deputy Minister Marina Hadjimanolis will visit India from November 21–26, accompanied by Cyprus Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI) president Stavros Stavrou and company representatives.

CCCI is organising the mission with the Shipping Deputy Ministry. Opportunities linked to the proposed India–Middle East–Europe Economic Corridor also feature in the programme.

During talks in Busan with Indian minister Sarbananda Sonowal, Hadjimanolis supported EU recognition for eligible Indian ship-recycling yards. Approval would give Cyprus-flagged vessels additional recycling options, subject to environmental and worker-safety requirements.

The mission follows the countries’ first joint maritime committee meeting in Limassol on September 29, under their 2017 shipping agreement.

In South Korea, talks addressed updating the bilateral maritime agreement, while international discussions focused on implementing shipping conventions.

The Asian tour also included naming Safe Bulkers’ Kypros Island, the Cyprus register’s first methanol dual-fuel bulk carrier. A second is expected in January 2027. Hadjimanolis reported that the register had grown 27% since September 2023, reaching a 25-year high.
