An international alliance to support the development of green shipping corridors has been launched in Beijing. Established during the 2026 Global Sustainable Transport Forum, it brings together 45 companies and organisations from 12 countries.
The International Green Shipping Corridor Alliance includes COSCO, CMA CGM and Shanghai International Port Group among its founding participants. It aims to improve cooperation between shipping companies, ports, fuel suppliers and regulators.
Its planned work includes supporting pilot routes, developing common approaches to alternative marine fuels and exploring an international certification system for green fuels. Fu Xuyin, a former Chinese vice minister of transport, has been elected its first chairman.
Green shipping corridors are designated routes where ports and shipping companies work together to make lower-emission vessels and fuels practical. The alliance aims to connect these individual projects and help them develop at a larger scale.
